Viristar has renewed its Affiliate Member status with FOBISIA, the Federation of British International Schools in Asia.
FOBISIA, formed in 1988 and based in Bangkok, aims to ensure high-quality British- international-style education through professional development and other means with its member schools. The organization has over 78 member schools, and welcomes affiliate members such as Viristar who can support FOBISIA’s mission.
Many FOBISIA schools provide outdoor, travel, or experiential learning opportunities to their students. These range from wilderness treks and outdoor adventurous activities to international service learning journeys.
Some of these experiences are provided as part of the Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) component of the International Baccalaureate program that some schools follow. Others are part of programming known as the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, International Youth Award, Hillary Award, or Award for Young People.
Viristar provides expert guidance, comprehensive training and skilled consulting to FOBISIA member schools who provide outdoor, adventure-based, wilderness and related learning experiences to their students. Viristar’s Risk Management for Outdoor Programs training course has been attended by individuals from a number of FOBISIA member schools, such as Nord Anglia International School in Hong Kong.
Kelvin Fawcett, former EAL Teacher and Windsor House Tutor at Nord Anglia International School Hong Kong, said of the training course:
“An extremely useful, important and informative course…gave me the confidence to manage a recent overseas trips and act as an advisor to my peers who are planning various programs across the school. A very enjoyable and worthwhile program.”
Viristar also makes available to these schools a number of other services, including:
Risk Management Reviews (Safety Audits) of outdoor/experiential programs
Customized outdoor risk management training
Program Quality Reviews, evaluating outdoor/experiential curriculum delivery
Curriculum Development for outdoor, experiential, and adventure programming
FOBISA provides a wide variety of continuing professional development and enrichment events to its schools, which serve over 72,000 students across Asia. Viristar looks forward to continuing to contribute to the mission of FOBISA and the safety and quality of the outdoor programs put on by its member schools.
