Risk Management for Outdoor Programs

Acclaimed, rigorous online course for managers and leaders of experiential, adventure, wilderness, and travel programs

Course takes 40 hours over four weeks (29 days)

Regularly scheduled open-enrollment courses available. Custom group courses with custom dates and times also available.

Wilderness First Responder (8 day)

Comprehensive 70-hour training in emergency medicine and wilderness rescue

Designed for those traveling to remote settings, wilderness contexts, or in disaster or austere situations

Internationally recognized curriculum and certification

Wilderness First Responder (5 day)

Comprehensive training in emergency medicine and wilderness rescue. Pre-course study and five on-site days.

Wilderness First Aid

Two-day course (16 hours), building introductory-level skills and knowledge in environmental medicine and essential first aid topics

Designed for those working in summer camp, front-country and similar settings where access to advanced medical care may be delayed but is not far away

Covers CPR, musculoskeletal injuries, thermoregulation, anaphylaxis, wounds, lightning, drowning and more

Wilderness Medicine Workshop

One-day class in wilderness and remote medicine topics, customizable to group needs

Flexible course content can include special topics in environmental medicine or region/activity-specific subjects

Course does not include testing or skills certification. Certificate of participation provided.

WFR Recertification

Three-day course (24 hours) to recertify Wilderness First Responder, WAFA or Wilderness EMS certification

Graduates receive Wilderness First Responder, Anaphylaxis, and BLS/Healthcare Provider-level CPR certificates good for three years

Wilderness Advanced First Aid

Four-day course (36 hours) covering major topics in wilderness, austere, and remote medicine & rescue

Curriculum includes BLS, anaphylaxis, wound cleaning/debridement, spine injury assessment, backcountry medicine, and more

Course designed for those traveling in front-country contexts, and backcountry and remote settings where access to advanced medical care is not highly delayed

Bridge (WAFA to WFR)

Four-day course (36) hours to upgrade a WAFA certification to WFR certification

Reviews WAFA curriculum content and covers all additional WFR material, including dislocation reduction, severe asthma, and advanced musculoskeletal injury care

Certification valid for three years

Wilderness EMS Upgrade

Five-day course (45 hours) designed to help medical professionals such as EMTs, paramedics, nurses and physicians develop specialized skills for patient care in wilderness, remote, disaster and austere settings

Continuing education credits through CAPCE and California Board of Registered Nursing may be available

Current EMS (EMT, paramedic) or other professional medical qualification is required.

Wilderness Advanced Life Support

Four-day course (36 hours) for advanced care medical practitioners, e.g. ALS-trained EMT-I, paramedic, PA, RN, MD or DO

Covers medical knowledge and critical thinking for patient care in remote and low-resource settings, including mass casualty, disaster, crisis and rescue situations

Credits may be available through ACCME-accredited Wilderness Medical Society and State Boards of Registered Nurses, American Academy of Physician Assistants, & CAPCE

Covid-19 Risk Management for Outdoor Programs

Legacy course covering good practice for managing public health emergencies for outdoor, experiential and travel programs

Free online course, approximately one hour in length

Content specific to COVID-19 pandemic; principles can be applied to similar health situations

Custom Course
